Frequently Asked Questions:

What instruments do you teach?

I offer lessons in piano and voice as well as tutoring for music theory.

What ages/experience levels will you accept?

I am willing to take students as young as 5, but there's no upper limit on age! It's never too late to start learning, so adults are just as welcome as children. The same goes for experience; I welcome beginners and experts alike.

Do you teach group lessons?

No, I do not. I have found that for most students, one-on-one lessons are the best method for instruction.

How long are lessons?

Lessons can be scheduled in 30, 45 and 60 minute intervals. Longer lessons are available by request only.

When do lessons take place?

Lessons occur weekly. Regular interaction between the student and instructor is crucial to musical growth.

Where do lessons take place?

While most lessons and coaching take place in my home studio, I am willing to travel to your home if it's easier. For in-home lessons, rates may increase depending on driving distance.

What style of music do you teach?

I have a great deal of experience in a wide variety of genres, and I am trained in both classical and jazz piano, so I can truly personalize your instruction. Whether it's pop, rock & roll, funk, blues, or even country, we can do it in your lessons.

Do I need to have a piano at home?

Having a piano is critical to being able to practice for both piano and voice students. If you do not currently own a piano (or suitable keyboard), we can certainly discuss your options for acquiring one.

Do you teach music theory?

Yes - My lessons start with basic material such as scales and key signatures, but can continue up to include figured bass, advanced voice leading/chord construction, form & analysis and even jazz or 20th century theory.

Can we meet before deciding whether or not to take lessons?

Of course. I'm happy to offer an initial complimentary consultation session for all students with whom I haven't previously worked.
